This summer I joined the Fjällräven Classic for a second time. After last year’s adventure I really wanted to share the experience with my SO. It took some convincing, but in the end, he decided to join me for what was his first overnight hiking trip ever.
For me the Classic was a flashback to what got me excited about hiking again and it was the perfect opportunity to introduce G to hiking. I was happy to finally be able to show him what it is that I do out there and what it is that makes me want to go back every chance that I get. What better place to do that than Lapland? The all-round atmosphere of the event is so amazing that I was sure G would enjoy it.
He had quite some gear already from day hikes and our bike-packing trip. We decided to invest in a decent backpack but tried to get everything else as cheap as possible. We ended up renting a tent from our local outdoor shop rather than buying one. That way we didn’t waste too much money if he ended up hating it.
I think he definitely underestimated the hiking and he was very much hiking to get to the finish, instead of enjoying the hike in itself. We did have a really nice time and were both mesmerized by the scenery. I’m not sure he’ll be joining me again soon, but he’s not saying a definite NO either. I’m taking that as a win.
I’ll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.
Hiking alone or with others, what is your favourite? I’m still deciding. Both are great in their own way. I’m happy I got to share something I love with someone I love, but I have to confess that I like hiking by myself as well.
