There’ve been a lot of changes for me lately. Some for the better, other well … not so much. It has been a weird couple of months and I have been pushed to take a closer look at my life, to re-evaluate my priorities and to set new goals.
I don’t want to get into much of the personal details, but I do want to share the following: IT’S TIME FOR ACTION, BABY!
One of the things I realised after my last ‘real’ hiking trip is that I need to get more of my outdoor life into my daily life. It doesn’t feel as an option anymore, but something I need and need to take action on. Once back home I started thinking of all possible ways to get this done and I’m happy to report I’m actually doing it! No dramatic overnight changes, but small steps towards a life that gives me more time in nature.
I’m taking a class on Alpinism with the Belgian Climb and mountaineer organisation. That means a theoretical class every Tuesday, workshops in the second semester and a mountain trekking this summer.
I went on a hiking weekend all about hiking in the mountains.
I’m doing my best to cycle to work once a week. That’s an hour and a half single way.
I started bouldering and hope to start doing it outside this summer.
And last but not least: I decided that I will do a long thru hike. I’ve given myself ten years, but the decision is made. I’m doing this between now and 2030.
I might not sound like much, but for me this is a big deal. The decisions are made and now it is time to act.
Good for you! I love a bit of positivity.
It sounds like you have had a tough time and I am sorry to hear that. However, sometimes, bad things lead to good things. I wouldn’t wish on anyone what happened to us, but it had the same effect. It caused us to re-evaluate our lives to benefit our health and do more of what we enjoy. The ultimate outcome has been overwhelmingly positive.
The steps you have taken might seem like tiny steps, but they are steps in the right direction – and as a hiker, you will know that’s what counts!
I wish you all the very best in pursuit of your dreams.
