My whole life I’ve been a dreamer. I was the one staring out the window in class, the tomboy that loved to climb trees, the one that always came home dirty. Not much has changed to be honest. I’m still a dreamer, but I have turned into a doer as well.
Most things I set my mind to happen, one way or another. When I was younger my mother pushed me to ‘just try it’ or to ‘give it a go’, because you might end up loving it. I still take this to heart and continue to give my dreams ‘a go’. Of course this involves many failures as well, but that’s okay. At least I tried.
Being outdoors is not really a choice for me, it is a necessity. It is a place where I can breathe and where I feel alive. Being outside makes me feel at ease and it almost feels like coming home. Something inside me changes, I calm down and can stop chasing my own tail. I know that ‘the outdoors’ is a big place, and I have my favorites, but I’m not picky. I adore the mountains, fell in love with the forest and am absolutely smitten with the seaside. This feeling has driven me during my travels and continuous to inspire me daily.
When I am outdoors, something inside me changes.
My first thru-hike was in 2012, when I did a six week trek on the Wales Coast Path. After finishing my studies I embarked on a one year trip in Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. A large part of this trip was done by bike. I’ve been back in Belgium for a couple of years now and a spur of the moment decision to join the Fjällraven Classic has made me realize just how much I enjoyed thru-hiking and cycling.
This website is a way to push myself, both with writing and with hiking.
Next to a love for the outdoors comes a love for reading and writing. These go hand in hand for me. I’ve spend countless hours reading and have been keeping a journal for as long as I remember. I’ve never actually done anything with these habits, but now I want to put my writing to good use.
With this website I hope to push myself to go further, dig deeper and to write about it.
On a more practical level: I’m 30-Something living in Mechelen (Belgium). During the week I spend most of my time in an office in Brussels, where I work in communication. The weekends are for family, hiking and reading.
